War on Mosquitoes

Rick Reilly, a popular journalist for Sports Illustrated has helped launch a great program recently. Using his Last Page Article in the magazine he wrote about the nothing but net campaign. Mosquitoes, especially in rural Africa is a serious problem. It is estimated that over 1 million people died of malaria last year alone with 500 million getting sick!!! The program involves the purchasing of nets to protect people from mosquitoes that could cause malaria. So its a big deal. Its a United Nations initiative sponsored by Ted Turner (Philanthropist Billionaire, owner the Atlanta Braves, Media Mogul - CNN, Superstations, and much more).

Rick Reilly's article was such a hit that it inspired readers to donate over $1 Million in less than a month (saving over 170,000 people). Anyways, the real cool part about this program is that the complete overhead of the program is paid for by Mr. Turner ($1 billion). That means that every donation made by you goes straight into the purchase of the nets, non of your money goes towards administrative costs or anything like that. (Click on the banner to find out more)

The program asks for $10 per net. Thats Ten Bucks (less than what you would pay for pizza, two beers, a movie, T-shirt, Gas for two days, a pound of wings and a coke, etc.) you get the point. So it means a lot. Anyways please check them out. Such a good cause and the real kicker is that every cent donated goes straight into purchasing and installing the nets.

Some Facts about the damage caused by Mosquitos.
